Family house Bouzov Horizon II and respect for the surrounding landscape

The investor’s idea was to build a residence on a hillside with a breathtaking view of the Jeseníky Mountains and Bouzov Castle.

In doing so, he wanted to emphasise respect for the surrounding landscape, so that the building would blend in and emerge from it. At the same time, it was requested that a concept for a second smaller guest house below on the property be included. The study then resulted in two designs for the main Bouzov Horizon II building.

Option B maintains the same room layout but works with the composition of the basic masses of the house on the slope in a different way.

The main residential section has been redesigned to respect the sloping nature of the site and the highest point of the elevation transitions seamlessly to the natural terrain of the meadow on which we are building. The cornice of the base mass of the house now follows the natural line of the slope.

Essentially only the gable roof rises above ground level. This helps the building to blend in with the profile of the terrain from all directions. This also creates a unique situation in the context of glare. It allows the living room to be oriented both towards the breathtaking landscape and the rising slope.

This brings the sun into the interior but also into the atrium at different times of the day. There is a variety of light during the 24-hour cycle. The slats help shade in the summer. The orientation and size of the windows, in turn, help to warm when the sun is lower on the horizon in winter.

Building mass and materials

The material solution of Bouzov Horzion II is based on the longitudinal prism of the first floor and the perpendicular mass of the gable part laid on top of it.

The design of the house is based on a combination of three basic materials: wood, stone and anthracite parts made of different materials.

The roofs of one mass are executed as gable roofs made of dark sheet metal, which elegantly add contrast to the whole building. Two perpendicular masses create an effective and natural articulation of the layout. The perpendicular gable section is self-contained in both mass and material. It is visually separated from the base.

The base, on the other hand, hides itself – it is aligned exactly to ground level, has extensive green flat roofs and so is essentially invisible from certain angles.

The overall impression of the building is based mainly on the impression of the gable end. It is distinctive, it is contrasting and it gives the building its identity.

The A-shaped windows as a façade element

The large A-windows in the gable allow maximum connection between the interior and the outside, while the wooden slats give the façade a distinctive and modern look, but above all guarantee that the living room will be livable even in the summer months.

The generous atrium, enlivened by vegetation elements, becomes the heart of the house and connects the main living rooms with the exterior. Added to this, the swimming pool and adjacent terrace create a place to relax and unwind in a beautiful setting overlooking Bouzov Castle.

The SPA segment of the building is certainly worth mentioning, as it is essentially the same size as the main living area.
