Two houses and the torzo

The task given by the investor was to design two new buildings on a sloping plot of land in the protected landscape area of the Lusatian Mountains. These buildings were meant to blend in with the natural character of the landscape, adhere to regulations, and offer a modern and sustainable design. The first building is located on the remains of a stone structure from the original settlement, and the design of the new house respects and fully utilizes this historical reference. It is a single-story building with a simple layout, featuring an entrance foyer, a bathroom with a toilet, two rooms, and a living room with a kitchen and dining area. The longer side of the living room opens up to a western terrace built on a portion of the stone structure. The building is designed with a gable roof and an exposed timber structure. The façade is composed of wooden cladding, interrupted by windows with anthracite fillings and exposed metal frames in a regular rhythm.

An important aspect of the design is the use of the ground floor of the original stone structure, where the technical facilities, cellar, and sauna with a relaxation area are located. The second, nearly twice as large building is situated in the other part of the plot, with the longer side of the façade facing the valley. It is a two-story structure embedded into the terrain in a way that only the upper floor is visible from the access road, avoiding a bulky impression. The house is divided into two residential units with a shared covered seating area. Both units have identical mirrored floor plans. The ground floor comprises a living room with a kitchen, a storage room, a toilet, and a staircase. The second floor contains the main entrances to the residential units, bathrooms with additional toilets, and bedrooms. The ground floor of the house is clad in stone to establish a connection with the adjacent stone structure. The façade of the second floor features wooden cladding with exposed metal frames, creating a visual unity with the house on the stone structure. The building has a gable roof with an exposed timber structure and a metal roof covering.
